Artigiano Day - Oct 1, 2020 International Coffee Day

Free Coffee, Any Coffee! When you bring in your own mug or drink in our cafe.

Vancouver, BC / Calgary, AB – On October 1, Artigiano will recognize guests for supporting their local business community with the first ever Artigiano Day, on October 1st, which is also International Coffee Day. Each guest who brings in their own mug or drinks in-house will be offered a complimentary 12 oz. coffee of their choice. This initiative is to give thanks to guests who have been so very patient over the last few months and to reinforce Artigiano’s steadfast commitment to both safety and reducing single-use waste, notwithstanding that businesses are now being encouraged to use throwaway containers.

“In 2019, we diverted 110,000 single-use cups from the landfill. Stacked up on top of each other, this number of cups would stretch from sea-level to the top of Grouse Mountain 14 times.” says Dean Shillington, owner of Artigiano. “The offer of a complimentary coffee is a small expression of gratitude to our local community for its ongoing support through these challenging times, but also an important reminder that we can still use reusable mugs and ditch disposables.”

Since 2019, Artigiano has offered a 25-cent discount on any coffee when guests bring in their own reusable mug and charges a 10-cent levy on any single-use, to-go cup. All proceeds of the 10-cent levy initiative are placed into a sustainability fund and applied towards other waste-reducing programs throughout the business. These initiatives are part of Artigiano’s journey towards reducing the environmental footprint that coffee shops have on our local and international waste streams, encouraging conversation on how to improve, and to try and lead by being an example to the rest of the coffee industry.
